Realschule - Register your child for admission
At the end of the first semester of grade 4, the teachers issue a primary school recommendation for each child. In this recommendation, the teachers state which type of secondary school the child should attend after primary school. This primary school recommendation is based on an overall pedagogical assessment. This takes into account
- your child's learning and performance to date,
- his or her learning and working behaviour and
- his or her learning potential.
Your child will receive the primary school recommendation together with the half-yearly information for grade 4.
You as the parent or guardian decide which type of secondary school your child will attend. The decision is binding for the school administration.

Prerequisite
Your child will receive a recommendation for the Realschule if his/her performance suggests that he/she will meet the requirements of the Realschule. Your child usually meets the requirements of the Realschule if he/she has achieved an average of at least "satisfactory" in the subjects German and Mathematics. The half-yearly information of grade 4 serves as a guide.
If your child has received a recommendation for a Gymnasium or a Werkrealschule/Hauptschule, you can still register him/her at a Realschule.
Note: The Werkrealschule/Hauptschule and the Gemeinschaftsschule are each included in the recommendation for the Realschule.
The aim of the primary school recommendation is to recommend to each child the type of school at which he or she can receive the best possible support. This means support that corresponds to the child's current level of development and aptitude and that neither over- nor under-challenges the child.
Procedure
You must register your child at the Realschule of your choice.
Information on registration is available on the homepage or at the school office.
The school will confirm the admission in writing.
